I am so excited to be beginning my 9th year teaching at Live Oak Elementary and my 4th year as part of the 5th grade team at Live Oak. Prior to working at Live Oak, I taught 5th grade at John Baldwin Elementary in Danville and I also taught 3rd and 4th grade classes in MDUSD. I began my career working with children in a preschool setting, studying developmental psychology to earn my Early Childhood Credential. After becoming a credentialed Elementary school teacher, I earned my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum Design.
I chose to enter the field of education because I am compelled to continuously learn new things and in turn take joy in sharing that experience with students. In past years I have been a part of the Teacher team at the Maker's Faire, taken a weeklong Project Based Learning workshop, become a Google Certified Educator, a Raspberry Pi Certified Educator, and a Seesaw Ambassador. Outside the classroom, I work with SRVEF's Imagineering program to bring exciting STEM-based enrichment opportunities to our district such as 3D modeling/printing and game design. I hope that in my classroom I inspire curiosity and spark the desire to be lifelong learners in my students.
When I am not at work, I'm busy going on adventures with my 7 year old daughter (who is starting in second grade at Live Oak) and my husband Robert, who is also a teacher. We read books together, visit zoos and parks, and often find ourselves experiencing the magic of Disneyland. I love Irish dancing and have danced with the McBride Irish Dancers for 29 years. I also love running races (especially in Disney parks) and have completed 17 half marathons and 2 full marathons! Earlier this year I completed the ultimate Disney run challenge by running a 5k, 10k, half-marathon, and full marathon on consecutive days. When I find a bit of quiet time, I love to curl up with a good book or do a crafting project. I'm excited to share my passions with the students and learn about all of their passions, hobbies, and goals as well.
